Jose Rivera Jr. 44, also threatened to shoot the vehicle his wife was trying to get into to escape, investigators said.
Rivera was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon and false imprisonment, an arrest report said.
Rivera got angry Friday at 12:04 p.m. when he found out that his wife, Wendy Rivera, had hidden his .380-caliber pistol. The woman told deputies she hid the firearm because of her husband’s bipolar condition, the report shows.
Jose Rivera then grabbed his .22-caliber rifle and threatened to shoot his wife’s phone. When the woman did not get the gun she’d hid, Jose Rivera shot her her phone, deputies said.
The husband then threatened to shoot the vehicle, deputies said.
After Jose Rivera was arrested and being taken to jail, he confessed to shooting the phone and said he had a right to shoot at his own property, investigators said.
“He stated that he paid for his wife’s vehicle and that she wasn’t going to leave in a vehicle that he paid for,” investigators wrote in their report.
