Welcome to FloridaDUH! My name is Nick Kurinzi. I live in Tampa, FL and have been a resident here since 1987. Currently I am retired having been a private investigator and prior to that a cosmetologist both here in Florida and in Massachusetts. (see I can spell) I decided to start this blog based on the fact that Florida is loaded with, shall we say, challenged people. It seems that all of the crazies, from around the country and world, have moved here. Why? I have no idea, but they keep doing what they do day after day. Sometimes bizarre, sometimes crazy. sometimes funny, sometimes questionable, sometimes amusing, sometimes unique and sometimes downright scary.
I will be sharing stories about rape, lust, stupidity, danger, criminal activity, embezzlement, conspiracy, bizarre politics, elderly abuse, child abuse, drugs, stupid laws, crazy ideas, dangerous people, terror and more, all with a unique spin! Because this is Florida! Some of you will doubt the reality of some of the antics of the citizens of this State, but let me assure you, they are real.
I believe the bizarre nature of the State became history with the presidential election of 2000. As you can remember, they announced that John Kerry had won the State and all of its electoral votes. Then governor, Jeb Bush, brother of president George W. Bush, who was running against John Kerry, came out with the statement that he would make sure that his brother would win the election. Did anyone care? Not in this State! … so, we had the “hanging chad” fiasco. Day after day, newspapers and television reports showed the best our State has to offer, looking at punch cards to decide what the intention of the voter was. (It seems that, as Floridians, we are not strong enough to make a clear punch hole) So, after weeks of nonsense, Katherine Harris, announced that George W. Bush was the winner of the election and certified that fact.
After all the interest in this event, crazies decided this was the place for them to come, set-up roots and begin to multiply. And multiply they did. Day after day stuff happens. What a state!
You can follow me on Twitter @kurinzi where I will be giving brief headlines about these stories. If any interest you and you want to know the facts, then come here and you will find a more detailed story about what exactly happened. I can guarantee one thing, you will be amused and wonder what the heck is this state all about and is it really part of the USA. I question that myself and I have lived here for 24 years.
So, welcome, I hope you enjoy some of these stories as much as I have.
Love your site! Must share it. Thanks for finding me on Twitter!
okay…i’m officially addicted to your site.
Nick, it seems you are putting the Duh, in Floriduh, with your about page. The 2000 election was between Al Gore and George Bush, not John Kerry and George Bush. Other than that your site seems to be pretty good…. Keep up the good work.
