The Bizarre World of Florida

Florida man caught on video torturing roommate’s cat ‘Chompers’ January 17, 2013

For months, Jordan Scott Bean’s roommate suspected him of entering her room  while she was at work.

sbn_8D4Na5_jSGYyhKQjLTl72eJkfbmt4t8yenImKBVaiQDB_Rd1H6kmuBWtceBJShe would come home and notice her bed sheets messed up, or a towel that  didn’t belong to her sitting on her floor.

But after she bought a hidden camera disguised as an alarm clock, police  say she discovered Bean, 25, was doing something much worse than going through  her belongings: He was torturing her cat.

Bean, of Boca Raton, was arrested Tuesday after police said his roommate  caught him entering her room, hunting down her cat Chompers and violently  beating him.

According to an arrest report, the video footage shows Bean wrapping  Chompers in a towel and violently shaking, choking and slamming her on the  bed for about 10 to 15 minutes.

“You can hear the cat hissing, moaning and wailing at him,” a Boca Raton  officer wrote in the report. “[Bean] gets on his hands and knees while carrying  a towel attempting to corner the cat.”

Police said Chompers attempted to hide from Bean in a closet, but Bean is  seen entering and closing the door. A few seconds later, loud banging noises and  hissing can be heard, followed by about a minute of silence, the report  states.

“I was able to hear Bean meowing while inside the closet mocking the cat,” an  officer writes in the report.

When Chompers escaped the closet, police said Bean caught her and wrapped her  in a towel, “squeezing her against his body.”

Despite the cat’s efforts to fight Bean and escape, police said he began  smothering Chompers, holding her down with both of his hands and sitting on her  head.

After watching the video, officers confronted Bean, who said he was just  playing with the cat and often looks after Chompers when his roommate is away,  the arrest report states.

Police arrested Bean after determining he “intentionally committed an act to  Chompers which resulted in excessive and repeated infliction of unnecessary  pain and suffering, the report states.

Bean was charged with animal cruelty and was released Tuesday night on $3,000  bail.

Chompers was taken to an animal clinic and is said to be in good health, but  the clinic instructed her owner to check for any changes in behavior which could  indicate an illness.

  1. “An eye for an eye” would be too lenient a punishment in the case of this sorry excuse for a human being.
