A man told an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy he couldn’t remember hiding over $300 worth of merchandise outside the fence line of a local home improvement store for pickup later.
On Sept. 4 the man was spotted on video and by Lowe’s employees hiding merchandise on his person and then hiding merchandise at the exterior fence line of the business to pick up later. He then left the store without paying for the merchandise.
He was confronted and produced $24.38 in merchandise on his person. Value of the merchandise hidden outside was $305.51. When a loss prevention officer tried to detain the man he fled on foot but was caught by another employee.
After he was arrested, he told the deputy “I can’t remember” when asked what happened.
The man, identified as Robert Anthony Burkhart, homeless, was charged with felony larceny and misdemeanor resisting property recovery by a retail merchant or farmer.
