A man trying to avoid contact with an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy was charged with carrying a concealed weapon after a machete fell out of his shorts.
The 33-year-old Fort Walton Beach man was standing on Miracle Strip Parkway Aug. 29 when a deputy stopped to talk to him, according to his arrest report.
When the deputy approached, the man reached into his shorts and the 30-inch machete fell to the ground. A subsequent search revealed that the man had a butter knife concealed in his shoe, the report said.
He refused to allow himself to be handcuffed without a struggle, so was also charged with resisting an officer.
The man later told deputies he carried the knives for protection.
