Details are still preliminary, but responding deputies report that Robert Payne entered his home this afternoon around 2:30. He entered the kitchen where his mother was doing the dishes. Deputies say that for some known reason, Robert Payne placed his hands around his mother’s neck and began choking her.
She reportedly then struck Robert with a plate – breaking it on his head, causing superficial injuries.
He reportedly then took a piece of the broken plate and slashed his mother’s throat – leaving a superficial wound.
Roofers working on a neighbor’s house saw the two run outside – and called for assistance. Deputies say there was no knife involved.
The call for assistance went out just after 2:30 p.m., Monday, September 10, 2012 and occurred at the Safety Harbor residence of Victoria Payne and her husband. Their son, Robert, also lives there.
Fire rescue responded and took both patients to a local hospital for treatment. Deputies report that Robert Payne told them he had taken synthetic drugs, mentioning K-2, Spice. The injuries are not life threatening.
