Naples police are looking for a man who robbed an Italian ice shop with a submachine gun late Thursday.
Officers were called to the Rita’s Italian Ice, 2045 U.S. 41 N., around 10:45 p.m. where they found two employees hiding in the back of the shop, according to police. The employees said a man in a gray ski mask came into the shop as they were closing and demanded the combination to the safe.
The robber ordered one employee to open the safe, fill a bag with cash and then go into a back room with the other employee, according to police. After taking the money, the man left the shop.
The suspect is described as about 6 feet tall with a medium build and a small, black submachine-type gun. He was last seen wearing a baggy sweatshirt, dark pants, a gray ski mask.
Detectives attempted to track the suspect with a K9 and a helicopter but were unsuccessful.
