Deputies have arrested a 25-year-old man they say exposed himself to a 16-year-old girl last week.
The incident took place while she was waiting at her bus stop at the 1200 block of 26th Avenue West on Friday. A news release states the victim said “the suspect pulled up to the bus stop in his vehicle and started fondling himself.”
The victim reported the act when she got to school.
With a descirption of the suspect and his vehicle’s tag number, a photographic lineup was presented. The victim positively identifed Furlow, according to the sheriff’s office.
Furlow was arrested and taken to the Manatee County jail. He had not been booked into the Manatee County jail, according to jail’s website.
According to Manatee County court records, Furlow has a history of similar charges.
In 2010, he was charged twice with exposure of sexual organs and sentenced to jail time in both cases.
The first incident occurred on Feb. 4, 2010, when Furlow drove up to the victim who was walking with her child in a stroller, according to the filed complaint. Furlow made sexual comments and fondled himself while following the victim for approximately two blocks, the complaint stated.
Furlow was sentenced to three months at Manatee County jail.
On Dec. 12, 2010, another victim reported Furlow drove slowly next to her while she was jogging. According to the complaint, Furlow exposed and touched himself in front of the victim. The victim reported the incident, giving a description and the vehicle’s tag number. Furlow was later sentenced to 364 days in Manatee County jail.
According to court records, Furlow filed an appeal of the sentence, stating in documents he “should be given some kind of treatment to cure my sexual addiction.” The notice of appeal went on to state: “I (feel) that I will be in a worse position if I spend a year in jail … because my illegal urges will be a lot stronger when I get out, and I don’t want to commit an illegal sex crime.”
The appeal was dismissed, according to the clerk’s office.
Furlow is not on the state’s list of registered sex offenders.
