Assistant Fire Chief Veldora Arthur received $120,000 in salary after she was charged with conspiring to commit mortgage fraud despite a policy calling for unpaid leave or reassignment.
Miami Assistant Fire Chief Veldora Arthur is on the hot seat: In February she was federally indicted for allegedly taking part in a $11-million mortgage fraud scheme.
Since then, the city has paid her more than $120,000 to stay home despite a policy stating that non-union employees charged criminally should be placed on unpaid leave or reassigned, reports The Miami Herald.
Arthur’s only work duties were to be in her house 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, with an hour lunch break, and to call the office twice a day.
Taxpayers are fuming mad.
