A 41-year-old Jacksonville man charged with driving drunk and a hit-and-run accident was traveling with his two young daughters and a young son when he was stopped, police said, reports The Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville.
Police said they spotted Oscar Adolfo Gomez driving erratically just before 9 p.m. Friday. During the stop, Gomez had slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol, according to the report. Dispatchers said the car matched one in a hit-and-run accident where a car was rear-ended.
When police looked in the car, they found three children, aged 5, 6, and 9 in the passenger side and rear seat. The victim of the hit and run was brought to the scene and identified the car as the one that hit her.
After police released his children to their mother, they told her “Daddy hit a car at Target,” according to a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office report.
Gomez, who has an extensive record of traffic violations, was charged with DUI while accompanied by a minor, DUI causing damage, leaving the scene of an accident and careless driving. The children were released to their mother.
