A Volusia County woman is accused of spiking her husband’s coffee with Xanax because (she claimed) he was abusive and she wanted to calm him down, OrlandoSentinel.com reports.
Donald Goetz, 47, told deputies on Wednesday he has not been feeling well for the past week, but didn’t know what was wrong with him.
It wasn’t until his wife, Melissa Goetz, unintentionally left him a voicemail — which recorded her telling another woman about the ruse — that Donald Goetz learned why he was ill, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
Sheriff’s officials are treating it as attempted murder, news-journalonline.com reports. Xanax is used to treat panic problems, with its main side effect being drowsiness.
