A 17-year-old from Cape Coral was arrested Friday after deputies said he tore of a piece of an ear belonging to another student with whom he was fighting.
According to the sheriff’s office, Atkins and his fellow student were in the main lobby of the school when Atkins hit the other student in the right ear, causing a piece of his ear to be removed.
Deputy Richard Hoffman reported the incident was retaliation for an earlier incident, when Atkins was accidentally hit in the eye while playing basketball during physical education class.
The other student attempted to apologize to Atkins, but was told there would be payback.
The other student’s father came to the high school and expressed a desire to prosecute Atkins. He is being held in juvenile detention.
